My First Home + The City Farmhouse

HOME

The story of who we are and a collection of all we love.

My first home evolved over five years of blood, sweat and tears. I have plenty of photos to share with you all to show you how much it has changed. Come with me, have a look and let’s embrace progress. Remember… Home wasn’t built in a day! I never thought the day would come, that my home would be complete. I have definitely put my mark on every single space in my house. I can’t wait to share the before and after pictures with you all.

I purchased my first home in 2017. It was pretty outdated, but it had good bones. They say when you find the right home that you just know. I think my parents thought I was slightly altered for wanting a fixer upper, but I went for it! I knew with a little TLC this would be my perfect starter home. Is my house perfect? No, but it is finally at a place where all major improvements are finished. So, come with me on a walk down memory lane and take a before and after home tour.

All of the before photos are from listing photos taken by the previous owner. I apologize in advance for the quality. Let’s start the tour of my City Farmhouse.

Kitchen

Out With the Old and In With The New!

The kitchen definitely needed a major update and there was no way around it. The inside of the cabinets were pretty rough and in my opinion had reached the point of no return. Everything in the kitchen has been ripped out and given a fresh start. The kitchen probably wins the award for most improved - although the main bathroom is a close runner up.

Dining Room

I’m not sure if I should start with the choice of paint colors or light fixtures, but yikes! The entire downstairs got a fresh coat of paint, along with new flooring and light fixtures. My living room and dining room are painted with Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore. My kitchen, sunporch and half bath are Horizon by Benjamin Moore. I am proud to admit that I am a Benjamin Moore paint-a-holic. I looove all of their paint colors and variety, not to mention the quality.

Living room

Onto the living room…

Well, we have seen green walls, yellow walls and now blue walls! Thankfully other than a fresh coat of paint and new light fixtures the living room was mainly cosmetic. Again, I apologize for the quality of the older pictures, they are not the best.

I, hands down recommend this couch from ikea. It is seriously so comfortable. you wont be disappointed.

The Master Bedroom

The main goal for my bedroom was to create a light, airy and relaxing space. I love falling asleep in my bed at the end of the day (I’m actually in bed typing this up as we speak!) The green paint and arrangement of furniture in the Master Bedroom made it feel very confined. Paint color in the three bedrooms is Halo by Benjamin Moore.

All wall art was purchased from Hobby Lobby.

The old picture frames I found antiquing (One of my favorite past times - stay tuned for my upcoming blog on Antiquing).

Pillows and throw blankets are from Home Goods.

This specific White comforter, which I sadly no longer have was purchased at Target!

Full Bath

The main bathroom could have given the kitchen a run for its money. I mean guys come on - that orange paint color…No Thank You! The flooring in the main bathroom was actually my last project I completed. Something about the tan tile has haunted me every single day up until the day it was GONE for GOOD! Do you want to know a little secret? My bathroom tile is actually peel and stick tile that I installed myself. I would definitely recommend giving peel and stick tiles a try especially if you are trying to be budget friendly. I have a sixteen-year-old daughter, and three dogs in my home, (Now I am down to 2, sadly) which means there is always something going on here. I was apprehensive at first as to how the flooring would hold up over time, but it has been four years and they still are holding up as well as the day they were installed. Paint color for my full bath is Repose Gray by Sherwin Williams.

Below are some pictures I’ve included of my half bath/laundry room off the kitchen.

My old phone, which included the before pictures of this space unfortunately got destroyed. Envision a toilet on a piece of plywood next to a sink that looks like it belongs in a doll house! It was bad, really, really bad. My favorite part of this space is of course the Shiplap. I am already preparing my fiancé for our future home and making it well known that there will be PLENTY of Shiplap.
